damaged
she let her heart pour out of her
it puddled on the floor
he stood and watched - sentiment lost
then he walked right out the door
an emptiness was all that’s left
all except her tears
she cried until her body ached
finality - exactly what she feared
her body lay atop her bed
but rest doesn’t want to share
it’s out of reach, though she will sleep
dreams replaced by nightmares
parts of her erased by pain
no chance for absolution
he’s long gone, moving on
distancing himself from her is his solution
though that seems fair, he’s unaware
the loss and grief she feels
love of a lifetime lay in waste
words struck like cold, hard steel
regret and sorrow all consuming
no way to change the past
someday old wounds may heal in time
or they might forever last
