forever was our promise
too bad it can’t be kept
even good intention
couldn’t keep us on our track

so now it’s separation
after that will be divorce
how quickly love can dissipate
when we fall far off course

some lessons strike as hard as stone
an unexpected hit
things fall apart, we didn’t grow
together like i’d thought we did

the weeds grew tall
with roots so deep
not even exhumation
could unbury shame from underneath

unworthy, ugly
consuming space

buried under pain
